Gumballs! Of the Bacon variety.

I’m not quite sure how it originated, but geeks love bacon. Let’s be honest, bacon is pretty awesome and can be found everywhere and on everything, from chicken to hamburgers. So, what’s better than wrapping meat around other meat? How about wrapping an artificially flavored bacon shell around a piece of bubble gum? Enter Bacon Gumballs by Accoutrements.

Bacon Gumballs Tin

A few months ago I won a small tin of these little gems from @sourceforge (supplied by @thinkgeek). Admittedly, I was somewhat afraid to sink my teeth into these gumballs. After getting a couple of coworkers to take the plunge with me, here is a quick review (disclaimer: this is just my opinion so… geeks, don’t write me hate mail).

When you unwrap the plastic from the tin and open it, you are hit with a strong bacon-like smell. They look like little pinkish gumballs, inviting you in to take a bite! “I can imagine it being like eating a soggy piece of bacon,” said one coworker. The gumball has a hickory/bacon flavor… at first. After a few chews it suddenly begins to taste like bubblegum! Yes, that’s right, bubblegum! Image taking a slice of bacon and a stick of bubblegum… now eat them together… that is basically the flavor explosion going on in your mouth.

This is an extreme novelty item, which made me quite nauseous. Would I do it again? Heck yes! I may consider trying the other bacon-inspired items Accoutrements has to offer, but as for the gumballs, if anyone wants some… I have about 19 more pieces to go.
